Bandwidth

Why is there such a great price difference for bandwidth from one host to the next?

To explain this we will use the example of the dedicated 10 Mb switch or hub which can be leased by WebMasters or hosts at a price range going from $2500 to $10.000 a month.

Facts: A DS-3 line will giving you less than 45 Mb/Sec sustained (because a portion of the line is used by the network) should not host more than 4 dedicated 10 Mb switches. This is not always the case. Some hosts will offer a 10 Mb switch for $2500 by reselling the same bandwidth up to 4 times! In other words, they would plug up to 16 dedicated switches into a DS-3 line and rent each of these at $2500.

Results? Poor performance and connectivity, troubled or overloaded network, un-sustained quality and speed at peak times because you are fighting it out for bandwidth with other customers!

Facts: Hosts such as ParadoxWeb, only sell the bandwidth once. Let us do the math to prove it:-

Up to 16 dedicated switches x $2500 = $40.000
Only 4 dedicated switches x $10.000 = $40.000

Many WebMasters would be better off renting 5 Mb with ParadoxWeb rather than 10 with another host!

The saying is true: You get what you pay for.
